welcome to the azalea garden!

Daily life, reflections, writing rambles, book talk, & media analysis.

About

Hi, I’m Jonah, and I love to talk! I have opinions on and things to say about almost everything. I’m a certifiable yapper, really, so I made this blog to talk about whatever I want to; that’ll primarily be my daily life, reflections on past experiences, media I like, media I hate, and personal writing projects. As stated in my front-page about section, I belong to various marginalized identities: TME nonbinary woman; intersex; aro/ace lesbian, mixed white/Indigenous American (white-passing); Sikh; autistic; and neurologically and physically disabled.* All of these things are relevant to mention, as they significantly impact my life experiences, which informs my worldview, politics, how I consume media, and how I write.

I’m engaged to the love of my life, Haven (it/its), who I adore more than anything and who I’ll be married to very soon. The cat at the top of this site is Mr Meowgi, my son; he’s an old man who I’ve had since he was barely old enough to leave the shelter. Due to two significant move (one across the US, one to the UK), he’s now in my parents’ care but I still love him dearly.

My favorite author is John Steinbeck, and has been ever since I was a kid and found one of his books left on a table in the children’s section at the library. East of Eden became my favorite book, which is why azaleas are my favorite flowers. Other favorite authors of mine include Louisa May Alcott and Tony O’Neill. My favorite poets are Chuuya Nakahara and Natalie Diaz, although I’m not nearly as much of an avid reader of poetry.

I have a whole host of interests, and things that fascinate me. I love all types of science, and would’ve pursued higher education in STEM if I wasn’t so godawful at math—but all manner of medical science is easily my favorite; honorable mentions to entomology and astrophysics. Other significant interests are micronations, BDSM/kink, food (making/consuming, cultural importance), fitness and nutrition, religion and cults, digital anthropology, internet lore (ie., MsScribe, Snape Wives, hiv-living, etc), drugs (medically, sociologically), linguistics, folklore, and various other things. More on my media-related interests here.

At the moment, I’m working on a project that I generally describe as “toxic yaoi.” But more specifically, it’s about ethics, morality, the darker impulses of humanity, the nature and definitions of good and evil, and at what point impact largely or entirely outweighs intent. How is this explore? Simple: a guy gets recruited to a new job at a tiny local bookstore, gets baited into starting to become a god, has sex with his boss, and pursues information to his own detriment, not necessarily in this order. Ideally I’ll have the first draft completed sometime in late 2026, but who knows! We’ll see.

Finally, as mentioned in the front-page about, I have DID. Because of this, I switch between singular and plural first-person pronouns (sometimes this is deliberate, often it’s accidental). For the sake of personal organization, each post will indicate which alter(s) wrote it. For more information about my experiences with DID, go here.

And should anyone be reading this, thanks for stopping by! I hope you have a great day.
